Preparations

With Bas being in The Netherlands and Hasan in Hong Kong for business, preparations are at least to say unusual. Hasan has been working in the Asia Pacific region since September 2010 and is back in The Netherlands every now-and-then (3 months in Asia versus about a month in The Netherlands).

A good thing though that preparations started a loooong time ago, with arranging first the items from which you can’t return: buying tickets for the AllBlacks’ group-games in New Zealand. Once you’ve got them, you can’t return.

As backpacking is the idea, we noticed that we’re actually lousy backpackers. Yes, we will have backpacks instead of four-wheeled-trolleys. Yes, we will stay in hostels instead of five-star-hotels. Yes, we will see the natural beauties the country has to offer. But then…

No, we will not work for food and shelter. No, we will not take a hike where we can take our rental car. No, we are not driving around in the smallest / cheapest car without air-conditioning nor without a navigation system. No, we will not travel by train where we can take the airplane. No, we don’t “just go there and find a place to crash” where we can simply book a room in a hostel. No, we are not letting our beards grow till the end of our journey (nor mustache, as we will not be in New Zealand during Movember).

Anyway, it is now about the end of July and we have more than a month to go before jumping onto the Malaysian Airlines’ Jumbo Jet to first Kuala Lumpur, and from Kuala Lumpur to Auckland: a whopping 23 hours in the air. We have already made a high level plan of where to travel to, on which dates to travel, and of course how to get there. We will not tell you everything in detail now, else the rest of the blog would be no longer of interest for you guys.

Let’s start with at least saying that we have tickets for the following games (and yes, the actual tickets have arrived and are in our pockets!!):

  • September 9, 2011: New Zealand – Tonga in Auckland. Opening game of the tournament, and Hasan’s birthday… We’d say a good opportunity to celebrate with a bunch of people!
  • September 16, 2011: New Zealand – Japan in Hamilton.
  • September 24, 2011: New Zealand – France in Auckland.
  • October 2, 2011: New Zealand – Canada in Wellington. As we plan to visit the southern island of New Zealand, we will actually sell our tickets for this game. Any takers? Contact us via the Contact form!
  • October 16, 2011: Winner QF3 – Winner QF4 in Auckland. As we have to return to The Netherlands on October 7, we will not be able to go to this Semi Final (in which most likely New Zealand will play if they win their group and win the Quarter Final (which is QF4). Again: any takers?? Contact us via the Contact form!

    Hoi Has en Bas,

    Groeten Wim
